As part of its emergency response… DRD implements essential improvements in shelter centers in Amuda
Amid the continued hosting of displaced families in shelter centers in the city of Amuda in northeastern Syria, and with the ongoing challenges related to room safety, privacy, and the deterioration of some infrastructure components, Dan Relief and Development Organization launched an initiative under its Emergency Response Program to improve the living conditions in 19 collective shelters across the city. The initiative was implemented between January 26 and February 2, 2026, based on the priority needs of each center.

The team’s work focused on enhancing safety inside the rooms through a set of maintenance activities, including:
Repairing and rehabilitating room doors to ensure secure closure.
Installing and replacing locks and related components such as cylinders, handles, and latches.
Repairing or replacing damaged doors.
Maintaining windows and improving their resistance to external elements.
Carrying out additional safety-related maintenance interventions as needed.
The initiative resulted in tangible improvements across the targeted centers, with maintenance teams completing:
Maintenance of 67 windows.
Installation of one complete door.
Replacement of 160 door locks.
Installation of 369 door latches for rooms and bathrooms.
Replacement of 62 door handles.
Replacement of 63 lock cylinders.
These efforts contributed to improving physical safety and privacy within the rooms, particularly for women and girls, while reducing protection risks associated with weak doors and windows. The intervention provided a safer and more dignified living environment for displaced families and positively impacted the psychological and social well-being of residents in the shelters.
