On Tuesday and Wednesday, Dan Foundation for Relief and Development completed the distribution of cash assistance to families displaced by the recent events and residing in several shelters in the city of Qamishli, with support from the War Child foundation

The distribution covered 219 families across 9 shelters, with each family receiving $150 USD, as part of the humanitarian response to the urgent needs of affected families

The foundation targeted families residing in the following centers: Maan bin Zaid School, Abd al-Ahad Younan School, the Teacher Training Institute, Muhammad Hussein Mustafa School, Ibrahim Hanano School (elementary and middle levels), Ararat Nursery, Lahdo Masoud School, and Ali bin Abi Talib School

This response followed continuous coordination with foundations operating in the region since the onset of the displacement wave, aiming to organize efforts and ensure that humanitarian services effectively reach those who deserve them

Enhancing Protection in Shelters

In parallel with the distribution efforts, the foundation carried out awareness sessions targeting women, men, and adolescents within the shelters, focusing on raising awareness of protection risks, beneficiary rights, and safe access pathways to services

The sessions addressed key principles, most notably the right to receive assistance without any form of compensation, the rejection of all forms of exploitation, and the promotion of a culture of safe reporting. The awareness activities also highlighted the importance of child protection, the risks of gender-based violence, and ways to access available support services with confidentiality and dignity

These activities are part of the foundation’s ongoing efforts to foster a safe and supportive environment for all shelter residents

As part of its ongoing humanitarian commitment to alleviate the distress of displaced and affected families, Dan Foundation for Relief and Development has completed the implementation of a comprehensive emergency response campaign targeting shelters in Al-Hasakah Governorate. This was carried out in partnership with the #HI “Humanity & Inclusion” organization, with support and funding from the European Union.

The response covered shelters in the city of Al-Hasakah, as well as the towns of Amuda and Al-Darbasiyah. An integrated intervention was implemented, combining material and psychological support, while respecting the dignity of the beneficiaries and addressing their multiple needs amid harsh weather conditions.

Aid Provided:
The foundation ensured the provision of an integrated support package to meet the basic needs of displaced families, which included:

Dignity Kits – (109 kits)
These kits were designed to maintain public health and preserve human dignity, containing essential personal hygiene items that enable families to cope with displacement circumstances with dignity and safety.

Psychosocial Support (PSS) Kits – (109 kits)
Based on the foundation’s belief that psychological care is as important as material needs, specialized kits for children were distributed. These kits include educational and recreational tools and activities, helping to mitigate the impact of psychological trauma and enhancing their ability to express themselves and cope with the stresses of displacement.

Shelter Kits – (109 kits)
These kits included essential sleeping items such as mattresses, blankets, carpets, and tents, contributing to a warm and safe environment within the shelters, especially given the low temperatures.

Heaters – (73 heaters)
In response to the cold weather during the winter season, heaters were distributed to the most vulnerable families to protect children and the elderly from health risks associated with severe cold.

Accompanying Awareness Activities and Psychological Support
The response was not limited to distributing relief items but was accompanied by an integrated program of awareness and psychological support activities, reflecting the foundation’s comprehensive approach to humanitarian intervention:

· Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) Sessions
As many families originate from areas contaminated with remnants of war, a specialized team conducted awareness sessions on how to identify suspicious objects and how to avoid them, with a focus on protecting children as the group most at risk.
· Psychological First Aid (PFA) Sessions
The psychological support team provided a safe environment to listen to the experiences of the displaced, offering guidance and emotional support, thereby contributing to strengthening psychological resilience and restoring a sense of security.
· Distribution of Printed Awareness Materials
Simplified brochures were distributed containing guidance on the risks of landmines, mechanisms for coping with psychological stress, as well as contact numbers for specialized support teams.

Impact of the Intervention and Ongoing Commitment

This intervention reflects Dan Foundation’s commitment to providing a comprehensive humanitarian response that addresses both material and psychological needs. This stems from its vision to enhance human dignity and ensure a safer, more stable life for affected families.
The foundation’s field teams continue to conduct regular assessments of evolving needs and coordinate with partners to expand the scope of future interventions, ensuring the sustainability of support and enhancing the communities’ capacity for recovery.
