<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Amid the continued hosting of displaced families in shelter centers in the city of Amuda in northeastern Syria, and with the ongoing challenges related to room safety, privacy, and the deterioration of some infrastructure components, Dan Relief and Development Organization launched an initiative under its Emergency Response Program to improve the living conditions in 19 collective shelters across the city. The initiative was implemented between January 26 and February 2, 2026, based on the priority needs of each center.</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img decoding="async" width="950" height="534" src="https://www.dan-ngo.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/5.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-3208" srcset="https://www.dan-ngo.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/5.jpg 950w, https://www.dan-ngo.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/5-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.dan-ngo.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/5-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /></figure>

<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph">The team’s work focused on enhancing safety inside the rooms through a set of maintenance activities, including:</p>

<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph">Repairing and rehabilitating room doors to ensure secure closure.</p>

<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph">Installing and replacing locks and related components such as cylinders, handles, and latches.</p>

<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph">Repairing or replacing damaged doors.</p>

<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph">Maintaining windows and improving their resistance to external elements.</p>

<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph">Carrying out additional safety-related maintenance interventions as needed.</p>

<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph">The initiative resulted in tangible improvements across the targeted centers, with maintenance teams completing:</p>

<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph">Maintenance of 67 windows.</p>

<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph">Installation of one complete door.</p>

<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph">Replacement of 160 door locks.</p>

<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph">Installation of 369 door latches for rooms and bathrooms.</p>

<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph">Replacement of 62 door handles.</p>

<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph">Replacement of 63 lock cylinders.</p>

<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph">These efforts contributed to improving physical safety and privacy within the rooms, particularly for women and girls, while reducing protection risks associated with weak doors and windows. The intervention provided a safer and more dignified living environment for displaced families and positively impacted the psychological and social well-being of residents in the shelters.</p>
