Amid escalating humanitarian challenges facing displacement-affected communities, Dan Organization for Relief and Development continues to implement integrated interventions in protection and psychosocial support, driven by its belief in the importance of mental health as a cornerstone for recovery and stability

The project targets Al-Hol, Twaihina, and Abu Khashab camps, responding to growing psychosocial needs through an approach focused on prevention, building coping capacity, and strengthening community cohesion, with special priority given to the most vulnerable groups.

Supporting Men Affected by Crises

“Safe Side” Program The project implements the Safe Side program within the framework of general protection, targeting 600 men affected by crises. The program provides safe spaces for group support, helping participants cope with psychological stress, manage anger and conflicts peacefully, and adapt to loss and changes in family roles, thereby contributing to individual and social stability.

Child Protection and Building Psychological Resilience

Within the child protection framework, the project offers psychosocial support programs for children and adolescents aged 6–17, including the PSS curriculum for children and the Conflict and Emotions curriculum for adolescents. These programs focus on safe emotional expression, building self-confidence, and developing communication and problem-solving skills, benefiting 255 children and adolescents in safe and interactive spaces.

Arts and Creativity as Tools for Psychological Recovery

The project adopts arts and handicrafts as psychosocial support tools for children, given their effective role in emotional release and confidence building. This intervention fosters creativity and teamwork, targeting 345 children in the designated camps.

Supporting Parents and Caregivers

To strengthen the family’s role in child protection, the project implements support groups for parents and caregivers, focusing on psychoeducation, self-care, and understanding children’s psychological and behavioral needs. This intervention benefits 100 caregivers.

Empowering Women and Girls and Preventing Violence

As part of the response to gender-based violence, the project implements the Self-Help curriculum for women and the Girl Shine program, targeting 360 women and adolescent girls. The intervention focuses on enhancing psychological well-being, building self-confidence, raising awareness of rights and personal safety, and strengthening social support networks.

Community Awareness on Gender-Based Violence

The project conducts participatory awareness sessions on gender-based violence, targeting women, men, boys, and adolescent girls, aiming to change harmful behaviors and increase knowledge of protection services and safe referral pathways. These sessions benefit 900 individuals of both genders.

Legal Protection and Case Management

The project includes awareness sessions and legal consultations on the importance of civil documentation and the risks of losing it, targeting 730 individuals. It also implements case management programs in general protection, child protection, and gender-based violence, targeting 460 cases, with full adherence to protection and confidentiality principles.

Community Protection Committees and Protection Monitoring

The project strengthens the role of community protection committees by engaging local communities in risk monitoring, awareness-raising, and supporting the most vulnerable groups, targeting 70 individuals of both genders. It also conducts protection monitoring activities to collect and analyze information on protection risks and rights violations, targeting 800 individuals, to support effective humanitarian planning and response.

Mine Risk and War Remnants Awareness

The mine risk awareness program contributes to saving lives and promoting safe behavior, especially during returns or movements outside the camps. The program focuses on protecting children and those most at risk, while empowering communities to transfer knowledge, targeting 2,000 individuals.

These activities embody Dan Organization for Relief and Development’s commitment to providing a comprehensive humanitarian response that places people at the heart of humanitarian action, working to enhance dignity, resilience, and community cohesion. Through the integration of protection, psychosocial support, and community participation, the organization continues its role in supporting displacement-affected communities, enabling them to overcome the impacts of crises and build a safer, more stable future.
